The present queen of England was born on April 21, 1926, but her official birthday is in June.
In fact, whether England has a king or a queen in charge, and no matter what month they are really born, their official birthday is always celebrated in June. The reason is to give everybody a good time.
June is a lovely warm month with lots of sunshine, even in England. And, since everybody in England likes to celebrate the king or queen’s birthday, they wanted to have it in nice weather.
In 1959, the British Parliament decided that the royal birthday party would always be held in June.

Powers of the Queen
The present monarch, Elizabeth II, has reigned since 6 February 1952. She and her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial and representational duties. As a constitutional monarch, the Queen is limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours, dissolving Parliament and appointing the Prime Minister. Though the ultimate executive authority over the government of the United Kingdom is still by and through the monarch's royal prerogative, in practice these powers are only used according to laws enacted in Parliament or within the constraints of convention and precedent. Here goes a video about the Powers of the Queen.
Form of Government
A monarchy is a form of government in which all political power is absolutely or nominally lodged with an individual, known as a monarch ("single ruler"), or king (male), queen (female).
As a political entity, the monarch is the head of state, generally until their death or abdication, and "is wholly set apart from all other members of the state."
The Monarchy File
- Since 1066 there have been forty monarchs in England (thirty-five Kings, five Queens and seven dynaties).
- The rule of the monarchy has only broken once. That was after the English Civil War. Then (between 1649-1660) the country was governed by Oliver Cromwell and his parliament.
- Only fourteen monarchs have stayed on the throne for more than twenty-five years. One of them is Queen Elizabeth II.
- Every Royal house or "dynasty" has a surname. In Britain´s case that name is Windsor. Queen Elizabeth II is the fourth Windsor monarch.
